Our Automotive Timeline

Our family has owned a number of interesting and some not-so-interesting cars over the years. Those with their own web sites are linked here. The following table is arranged with time on the Y-axis in accommodation of the vertical nature of The Web.

Cars sharing the same horizontal space were owned concurrently in time, thus four columns indicates I did (briefly) have four cars for (at the time) two drivers. The similar acquisition dates of the Turbo S and Insight were planned as a track car + daily commuter complement. However, the Beetle and Corvair acquisitions were entirely disassociated in both time and purpose. The year time resolution blurs such subtlety.

One car following another on the vertical axis generally implies a sell/buy relationship, though not necessarily in purpose. I.e., the Turbo S was replaced by the Evo which was replaced by the Golf as my sports car and daily driver, but Evo ownership overlapped both cars by a significant amount. I ended up using the Evo as a dealership trade-in on the Passat VR6 only because of a good offer + tax savings and convenient timing. As a counter-example, the Golf did not replace the Beetle in any way and there was a gap of a few months between the sale of one and purchase of the other. It was merely convenient to economize in columns this way.
