Lowering

I needed some rock salt and it was a nice, sunny day so I brought the Corvair. It was a prime opportunity to see how it looked with the front springs compressed. I loaded 200 lbs. into the trunk in front of the front axle. The steering effort went up quite a lot and the handling on the (then) worn suspension was pretty sloppy, but the appearance nicely matched the level of the rear springs.

Instead of cutting coils, I've since replaced the original front springs with new Chevy heavy duty units. They lowered the front slightly and improved the handling and ability to load the trunk. Ajustable Koni dampers and replacing every rubber bushing improved things even more. It's quite fun on my favorite back roads now.
